After many these years in the fashion business, I’m so excited to be working with an amazing team to bring back my favorite 70's brand!

Famolare had a big influence on my Southern California beach and emerging fashion subculture youth. As a young girl my identity was somewhat wrapped up in the positive energy and kindred spirits that surrounded those of us who lived in Famolares.

I've always considered myself a Famolare Girl. We are strong and independent, kind and compassionate. We don't accept things as they are - we make waves!

I just love the way I feel working every day, traveling around on the signature wavy soles. They are so comfortable and make walking miles almost effortless.

I look forward to working with you as we bring back this iconic heritage fashion brand.

In honor of "firsts" and the 1st of the year, we'd like to share something with you. Did you know that Nike, Adidas, and many other footwear brands have cited Famolare patents as prior art? That means that when those companies applied for their patents, they had to list Famolare's patents as the first of its kind, followed by their tweak on our patent.  Here are some of Famolare patents that ended up helping some big companies create new footwear that has stood the test of time. Many of you probably didn't know that the technology for:  COMFORT WEDGES, ROCKER SOLES, SHOCK ABSORBERS, and AIR CUSHIONING began with Famolare...

Famolare invented the concept of sustainable fashion in 1969, 50 years ago.

We focus on renewable and sustainable materials that are produced by suppliers within a 25-mile radius of the factory, so there is less traveling involved.

Most fashion companies manufacture overseas. We produce Famolares in North America, keeping the distance between our factory and our warehouse in Los Angeles to a minimum.

We use renewable materials such as leather for our uppers, linings and insoles along with rubber for our outsoles. We also hand craft our product in such a way that they will last for years, and repair easily. There are thousands of highly coveted used and still wearable Famolares, many over 30 years old, for sale on Poshmark, Etsy, Ebay, and other websites. Not too many shoes, that old still have a long life ahead of them. It's a testament to how Famolares were built back then, and we craft them the same today.

When it comes to sustainability, Famolare is in a class by itself.

When you're on your feet all day it feels better when you're walking on Waves. With only two pair of Famolares each, we were able to go from the beach to the nicest restaurants in town. The picture on the left was take the day of our arrival in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The one on the right was taken our last day in Santiago, Chile. If you read the comments on our social media, you will see that women have been counting on their Famolares to explore the world with them for decades.

Snowboarding has been my favorite sport after I gave up team sports like softball, basketball, and volleyball in my early twenties. Over the years I'd seen those ads in airports about sand boarding and one day mentally added it to my bucket list. After tearing my hamstrings off a year ago, I didn't think I could hop on a board again. The surgery to reattach them went well and less than 1 year later I had the opportunity to try sandboarding for the first time - in Valparaiso, Chile.

It was a beautiful setting with the ocean on one side of the hill and the city on the other. My daughter went first. I taught her how to snowboard when she was a 8 years old. She's better at it than I am now. She said "Mom, the hardest part is walking back up hill." So, I gave it a try. It was challenging, and I was exhausted walking back up the hill knee deep in sand. The thrill was worth it. It wasn't just about the salty air blowing through my hair, it was the fact that I tried something I'd never done bef...

I'm still wearing my parka and snowboard hat here in the Midwest and it's May 10th! This is the longest winter I can remember. At least the ice has melted on Lake Michigan. I can't wait for spring to pop so I can wear my Famolare sandals.

I just returned from visiting my daughter who has been living in South America for the past year. We went to Argentina, Uruguay, and Chile. I only brought 4 pair of shoes, 3 of them Famolares. I never ended up wearing the 4th pair; Nikes. I wore my Flippity Flops, and Band and Delivers every day. Trading them for my Double Visions on occasion. I was surprised to discover that my 24 year old daughter moved down to South America with only 5 pair of shoes, and she told me that she wears her Famolare Honeybuckles and Strapsodys most of the time "because they are so cute, go with just about everything I own, and are so comfortable walking around in them all day and night". She lives in a big walking city, and takes public transportation everywhere. My style will always be haute bohemian. Her style is very eclectic.

My visit with her reinforced why I love being part of the FamGirl community. Though we are two or three generations apart, we all embody similar attitudes and outlooks...

The secret of a happy life is to find your passion and go for it. Sometimes it comes up quickly and takes ahold of your heart and just know it's real. Other times it lingers around the edges of your mind and periphery of your heart for a while, perhaps years. I try my best to be mindful of its presence as I search for its meaning, because I believe that through persistent action that originated in the essence of passion we will find courage, hope, joy, and happiness.

Fam Girls who Make Waves that push forward positive lasting changes inspire us. We need to continue to support each other so that each one of us has the courage to stand up to adversity, and feel empowered. We say "Make Waves" because we want to honor your heroic efforts, no matter how big or small the positive wave effect you start may seem at the time of your initial action. We'd love to hear your story. Please email us at

In this lovely new novel Very Valentine, by Adriana Trigiani, the author recalls how much her mother loves shoes.

“Mom says that you know you’ve been around awhile when you own every possible variation of a heel in your shoe collection. She still has the Famolare Get There sandals with the wavy bottoms. My mother never needed the recreational drugs of her era, she just put on those sandals and swayed.”

I couldn't agree more. Famolares have this unique positive energy that gave/gives women a healthy feeling of power, sensuality and unbridled self-confidence. No drug can do that.
