Snowboarding has been my favorite sport after I gave up team sports like softball, basketball, and volleyball in my early twenties. Over the years I'd seen those ads in airports about sand boarding and one day mentally added it to my bucket list. After tearing my hamstrings off a year ago, I didn't think I could hop on a board again. The surgery to reattach them went well and less than 1 year later I had the opportunity to try sandboarding for the first time - in Valparaiso, Chile.
It was a beautiful setting with the ocean on one side of the hill and the city on the other. My daughter went first. I taught her how to snowboard when she was a 8 years old. She's better at it than I am now. She said "Mom, the hardest part is walking back up hill." So, I gave it a try. It was challenging, and I was exhausted walking back up the hill knee deep in sand. The thrill was worth it. It wasn't just about the salty air blowing through my hair, it was the fact that I tried something I'd never done before and didn't think was possible - and made it!
That spirit of adventure and can-do attitude lives in all of us FamGirls. I hope you have an opportunity this summer to venture out too!
